We miss having 2 dogs in the house. We're looking into AKC rejects and rescue Miniature and Standard poodles 10 months to 1.5 years old. The last time we adopted a pet, we did so through an ad in the paper. Now the times have changed and hardly anybody is posting ads in the paper anymore. Does anybody on here know of any Pet classified websites that are trustworthy? Im just looking for some leads

Look into a rescue and don't limit yourself to puppies.

We actually dont want a puppy. 10 months is a young adult poodle. There is a local poodle rescue, but they dont have much right now, mostly mixes. We dont want a mix

I'm not sure if they are in Colorado, but I got my dog from a group called The Animal Pad. You can look them up on Facebook.

As crazy as it sounds, Craigslist. I got my registered American Bulldog off there, at in between 1-2 years old for free. She's been a great dog, and great dogs can be found. Also, check local shelters.

A lot of shelters, rescue groups, etc. list on petfinder.com. I hooked my parents up with their current cat through a petfinder listing, one of my 3 idiots came through there, and there are even more dogs. You can search by breed and location as well, which makes things a lot easier to narrow down.

That sucks. Well, then shelters are my next recommendation. They have plenty of adult dogs that need homes, and when there are too many puppies, they are the last to be adopted. Usually they don't get adopted.

There are a variety of poodle-specific rescue networks out there, and my family has always had good experiences with them. Because of allergies, my mom has only ever had Standards, and only ever sought out rescues. So, try "poodle rescue Colorado" in the google and you'll see some leads.

Petfinder. Lots of local shelters and rescues will post on there, as well as other people. Try to stay away from breeders, though. Too many of them treat their animals horribly, and it's just not a good thing to be a part of.

10 months is still a puppy. my 14 month Cocker Spaniel still acts like a puppy. Very young purebreed rescue dogs exist, but they're very rare. I'd just recommend you widen your criteria a bit.

petfinder.com is an aggregator of a TON of rescue sites, breed specific and otherwise. try them.

I have 3 points for the upcoming pet search:
-Petfinder. Use Petfinder.com. They are an aggregator for tons of rescues, and generally trustworthy. I got my current dog through a rescue that uses petfinder.
-Adopt, please.
-If you are getting a poodle for reasons not relating to allergies, there are many great shelter mutts waiting for a home.

I have horrendous seasonal allergies, I need something hypoallergenic. Plus they are scary smart and I like that. My last poodle taught himself to open doors, drawers and cabinets, pull levers, push buttons. He once let himself in from the backyard. There is an intellectual bond you have with poodles that just cant be replicated with any other breed

Okay, so you want a smart, hypoallergenic dog? Yeah, get a poodle. Sounds like a safe bet.
Are the allergies dander-related? Just curious.
P.S. Smart dogs are the best! My beloved Muttley (Abby) could open doors, pilfer for anything she wanted, and could understand about 200 words, when blind, and possibly partially deaf. I miss her.

I used to be allergic to dander, I grew out of that. But my pollen allergy has gotten worse over the years, so I cant have anything that will get pollen trapped in its fur

How do the allergies manifest? Sneezing, coughing, watery eyes, itchy eyes, etc?
![]() 01/16/2015 at 22:37 |

My seasonal allergies: all of the above, year round. My food allergies present with anaphylaxis. I am a very allergenic person.

Ouch, and I thought my occasional pollen, mold or dander allergies were bad. They manifest in all but watery eyes, when they happen. Food allergies suck too.

I have alot of food allergies actually. 8 to be exact, all life threatening

Alol of a sudden, I feel very lucky. I have 2 that cause plain annoying and irritating traits compared to anaphylaxis. You do have your own car though. I won't be getting one until Spring. You do have good tastes in the department of first cars, getting something infinitely more reliable and practical than what I want to get, while still fun.

Hey Denver, does the ASPCA exist in Colorado? That's where we got my Champ (my pitbull boxer mix) he was 3 months old, they have a ton of rescues. Champ was part of a litter rescued from an illegal dog breeder in North Carolina.
Also look for no kill shelters in Colorado they have a ton of rescues that need good homes. I've always wanted to volunteer at some of these shelters but surprisingly the process is very strict and long including needing to go through a background check, a few interviews and even taking a test. I just wanted to dedicate a few hours over the weekend to help with feeding, walking or playing with them or helping them organize/clean.
